The Asian Regional Center welcomes Mr. Victor Sarango Guaman from Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences, Department of Ecology.
Mr. Guaman, arrived on 2 July 2009 and will be in ARC to conduct a two month study on fruit flies for his “Minor Field Studies”.
During the briefing held on 3 July 2009, Dr. Ooi gave a presentation on ARC’s current activities and achievements in the South East Asian region. This was followed by a presentation on the current fruit fly studies in ARC by Ms. Chanida Somta. Mr. Guaman’s study entitled “Ecology of Bactrocera spp.”, is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and will be under the supervision of Dr. Ooi and Ms. Somta.

28th Regional Training Course on Managing Vegetable Production and Marketing 28 September -18 December 2009 Registration is now open for interested applicants for this year’s regional training course. The 28th RTC is aimed to enhance the managerial skills of researchers and extension specialists to meet the challenges of modern techniques in vegetable production and marketing and to provide an environment for farmers to enhance their skills to realize the potentials of modern agriculture. AARNET 4th Steering Committee Meeting The 4th Steering Committee Meeting of the ASEAN-AVRDC Research and Development Network (AARNET) was held at Maruay Garden Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand on May 12, 2009.
