BACKGROUNDThe Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center - Asian Regional Center started as Thailand Outreach Program (TOP) in 1982 in Kasetsart University (KU) as a bilateral agreement between AVRDC and Thailand Government. Later, it evolved into a larger, region-wide program called Regional Training Program (RTP). The combined programs were upgraded to a regional center status and was renamed AVRDC-ARC based on a Memorandum of Agreement between KU and AVRDC, signed on 10 November 1992.

OUR MISSIONAVRDC-ARC aims to improve nutrition and reduce poverty through vegetable research and development. The strategy is to build partnerships and mobilize resources from private and public sectors to effectively tackle problems of vegetable production and consumption.

ศูนย์ภูมิภาคเอเชีย (AVRDC-ARC) ตั้งขึ้น ณ มหาวิทยาลัย เกษตรศาสตร์ ตั้งแต่ ปี พ.ศ.2535 ตามข้อตกลง ระหว่างรัฐบาลไทย กับศูนย์พืชผักโลก (AVRDC-The World Vegetable Center) โดยริเริ่มจากโครงการ พัฒนาพืชผักสู่ชนบท (Thailand Outreach Program)ซึ่งต่อมา ได้พัฒนาเป็น โครงการฝึกอบรม ระดับภูมิภาค และก่อตั้งเป็น ศูนย์ภูมิภาค เอเชีย เมื่อวันที่ 10 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2535 โดยการลงนามบันทึก ข้อตกลงระหว่าง มหาวิทยาลัย เกษตรศาสตร์ กับ ศูนย์พืชผักโลก (AVRDC-The World Vegetable Center)
